Here are details of some recent commissions I have been working on. I like working really closely with my clients to produce a truly unique design for them. The brilliant thing about woodcut and linocut is it’s versatility. One carving can be adapted to so many surfaces from tshirts and bags to paper, mugs or badges. The list is endless. Where there is a 3rd party involved (for example when the design is adapted for a mug or large number of bags or tshirts) I will handle the liaison and printing process. I like my designs to be used on sustainable, fair trade textiles and recycled or handmade papers, and I choose screen printers with the same environmentally friendly credentials. I consider all sizes of commission… please contact me to discuss!
JBT Distribution Ltd anniversary print for fairtrade tote bags, t-shirts and mugs
The Scottish distribution company JBT celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2018, and they wanted gifts to give away to staff and clients to mark the occasion. I was commissioned to produce a birthday linocut print, which I printed onto fairtrade tshirts, and arranged to have screen printed onto fairtrade tote bags and mugs. I cover more details in a blog post. Here are some images of the products and process:
Cycling team logo
I created this linocut ‘Scots lion rampant on a bike’ for a small team competing in the Cape Epic MTB 8 day stage race this year.
Velo Club Leitholm
Velo Club Leitholm are a local cycling club who wanted to offer handprinted fairtrade tshirts to their members rather than the normal commercial merchandise. They provided their logo and I transferred it to a linocut block, carved and printed it onto tshirts and tote bags. The back displays the full logo and the front is a wheel. They asked for numerous colour options, and keep coming back for more tshirts when they need them!
I produced an original mixed media print, which was commissioned for a wedding present. The couple in question are both keen cyclists, so this was the theme. I sketched a couple on a tandem, which I turned into a linocut block (see below). The background was rolled and painted with ink. The couple were very pleased apparently!!
Here’s a selection of some smaller pieces of work I’ve done - mostly adapting my existing designs for gifts. The ‘Wheelwoman’ bags were commissioned on blue for a series of Christmas presents for cycling friends. The tshirts have been personalised - the design is different to the standard ones I print for sale. I’ve produced alot of tshirts using specific designs on a requested colour/size of tshirt. They are all fairtrade and fairwear certified. If you have an idea, please contact me!
